Primary or elementary is the compulsory educational stage that covers ages from 6 to 12. It is the longest stage in the educational system and during this stage children consolidate their identity and start to be aware of their capabilities and limitations. They also begin to perceive their role in the social and cultural environment.
The aim of these six years is to provide students with comprehensive training necessary to develop intellectual, motor, personal and social capabilities, and also to acquire solid basic competences that will help them guide their own future.

At school we accompany them along this path while they learn several values and are, at all times, the protagonists of their own learning. We respect their learning rhythms and abilities, following active methodologies based on participation, observation and experimentation, manipulation and cooperative work. We give focus on activities that foster dialogue, critical thinking and responsibility.

WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT

We develop basic competences by building knowledge from projects and learning itineraries by applying research, communication, expression and transfer skills. Digital skills and technological resources are totally integrated in our daily work at school. Furthermore, teachers are in permanent training to be able to respond to new educational needs.

Learning different languages enables knowledge and social and employment integration in a globalized world and helps to perceive the richness of a diverse world. That is why almost a third of the subjects are taught in English: Art, Physical Education and Robotics (complementary subject) and, of course, English language. We have a conversation assistant who gives language support in lessons. Learning itineraries incorporate the linguistic diversity of our environment.

Our school incorporates the TACs Tecnologies d’Aprenentatge i Coneixement (Learning and knowledge technologies) through various learning tools. Technological language is specified each year in a complementary subject (Leading innovation). This develops the digital competence through creativity and robotics. The use of cameras, iPads, laptops, video editing and digital microscopes, among others, are part of our daily practice.

We consider musical education as an essential part of learning. That is why we sing, dance and express ourselves through music and the body.

Tutoring is the cornerstone of this stage. We conduct a weekly hour of mentoring in which we work on values, study habits, mediation and celebrations, among others. Once per term, we hold a day of coexistence to deepen our relationships and to learn new strategies for better coexistence.

We carry out activities to encourage reading habits and the pleasure of reading such as Travelling Suitcases and Book Explorers. We can do this thanks to our classroom libraries and the collaboration of the municipal libraries.

Emotional aspects, internal dimension and social abilities are systematically addressed with all the students, inside and outside the classroom, in order to improve coexistence and to achieve a calm and harmonious school environment.

The Department of School Counseling (DOE), together with specialist teachers, help class teachers detect and reinforce any special educational needs of the children who require it. This department gives counseling and support to the teachers and families who need it.
